Stand-Out Features
From our hands-on inspection, the CROSS MAGNUM’s appeal is in its modularity. The adjustable polymer stock isn’t just for show—it lets you fit the rifle to you, which is critical for consistent shooting whether you’re in a tree stand near Wichita or on a prairie dog town. The integrated rail is solid; we’ve mounted scopes from Vortex to Leupold without issue. The action is where it shines. We’ve found the bolt lift to be smooth right out of the box, with a positive lock-up that’s consistent across the units we’ve handled. The two-lug design keeps things simple and reliable. The user-adjustable trigger is a legitimate feature, not a gimmick. You can set it for a crisp break suitable for competition or a slightly heavier pull for hunting in cold weather with gloves.
Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Pros:
- Out-of-the-Box Accuracy: Our customers report sub-MOA groups with quality factory ammo, which aligns with what we’d expect from the solid barrel and action bedding.
- Excellent Fit & Finish: This one consistently passes our visual QC. The machining is clean, the Cerakote is even, and all parts fit to spec without slop.
- Superior Adjustability: The stock adjustments are tool-less and meaningful. You can truly tailor the length of pull and comb height, a feature usually found on rifles costing much more.
- Controlled Feed: The Mauser-style claw extractor provides positive cartridge control. In our handling, it feeds and extracts smoothly and reliably.
- Strong Aftermarket Support: Being part of a modular system, you can swap calibers and barrels. For the Kansas hunter who might want a .308 for deer and a 6.5 Creedmoor for target, this is a major cost-saving benefit.
❌ Cons:
- Magazine Cost: The proprietary magazines work flawlessly but are more expensive than some common AICS-pattern mags.
- Stock Feel: The polymer stock is durable and functional, but some shooters accustomed to traditional walnut or high-end composites might find it lacks a premium “heft.” It’s a trade-off for the weight savings and adjustability.
- Bolt Knob: The standard bolt knob is adequate, but serious long-range shooters often immediately upgrade to a larger, aftermarket knob for faster manipulation.
Best For
Buy if: You’re a hunter looking for a versatile, accurate magnum rifle for elk out west or long-range whitetail shots in Kansas, and you value the ability to adjust the fit. You’re a shooter who appreciates a modern, modular system that can grow with your needs. You want a rifle that performs above its price point without needing immediate upgrades.
Skip if: You’re on an extremely tight budget and the upfront cost is a barrier. You exclusively want a traditional, wood-stocked rifle for aesthetic reasons. Your primary use is ultra-heavy barreled, strictly benchrest precision shooting where weight is an advantage.
Your Questions Answered
Is the CROSS MAGNUM a good rifle for Kansas whitetail?
Yes, but it’s overkill for most shots under 200 yards. It excels for hunters in western Kansas or those who have long, open field shots. For thicker timber, a lighter-recoiling caliber like .308 in the CROSS chassis might be more practical. We sell a lot of these to hunters who also want to reach out to 600+ yards on the range.
How does the adjustable trigger work?
It uses a simple set-screw system accessed from inside the trigger guard. You can adjust the pull weight from about 2.5 to 5 pounds. We recommend a gunsmith do this if you’re unfamiliar, but the mechanism is straightforward and secure once set.
Can I change the barrel myself?
Technically, yes—the system is designed for barrel swaps with the proper action wrench and barrel vise. However, headspacing is critical. For most owners, we recommend having a competent gunsmith perform the swap to ensure safety and accuracy.
What scope mount do I need?
The rifle comes with an integrated 20 MOA Picatinny rail. You just need standard rings or a cantilever mount to match your optic’s tube diameter (30mm, 34mm, 1″, etc.). No separate base is required.
Is it loud and does it kick a lot?
It’s a magnum cartridge, so expect significant report and recoil. A good muzzle brake (it’s threaded 5/8″-24) and a quality recoil pad are highly recommended for extended range sessions. The rifle’s weight does help manage some of the felt recoil.
Where can I buy CROSS MAGNUM online?
You can purchase it right here from Polymer80Warehouse. We’re a licensed Kansas-based FFL. We’ve carried this model since Q1 2025, and with a 4.7/5 satisfaction rating across 32 buyers, it’s proven reliable for our customers. We inspect each one before shipping.
Why do you sell more on weekends?
Our staff observation is simple: folks try them at the range. Someone shoots a friend’s CROSS, sees the groups it prints, feels the adjustable stock, and comes home to order one. It’s a rifle that often sells itself on performance during a weekend range day.
