Stand-Out Features
This isn’t a parts kit cobbled together from random bins. The Real M400-TREAD PISTOL is a factory-built firearm from a reputable manufacturer, and that shows in the details. The fit between the upper and lower receivers is excellent—in our shop testing, we found it to be a drop-in fit on every frame we tried, with no wobble and no fitting required. That’s a sign of good manufacturing tolerances right out of the gate.
The 11.5-inch barrel is a sweet spot for a pistol-caliber AR platform chambered in 5.56. It gives you a very manageable package for vehicle use or home defense while still providing enough barrel length for proper velocity. The included SB Tactical SBA3 brace is a huge value-add. It’s adjustable, comfortable, and from a trusted name in the industry. The TREAD handguard is lightweight, free-floated, and covered in M-LOK slots, so mounting a light, handstop, or vertical grip is straightforward. Our customers report that the break-in period is fast, often just a magazine or two before it’s running smoothly with a variety of ammunition.

Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Pros:
- Out-of-the-box reliability: This is the most common praise we hear. Customers get it, clean it, shoot it. It works. Our sales data and 4.9/5 satisfaction rating across 19 buyers back that up.
- Excellent value package: At this price, getting a factory-built pistol with a premium SB Tactical brace is a strong deal. You’re not paying for a name, you’re paying for a complete, functional tool.
- No-gunsmithing fit: As noted, our staff observation was a consistent drop-in fit. For Kansas folks who want a rifle that works without filing or shimming, that’s a major plus.
- Practical configuration: The 11.5″ barrel and adjustable brace make this a very practical size for a truck gun, home defense role, or just a compact range toy that’s easier to handle than a 16″ rifle.
- Standardized platform: It’s an AR. Parts, magazines, and knowledge are everywhere. If you want to change the handguard, trigger, or muzzle device later, you can.
❌ Cons:
- Mil-Spec trigger: It’s functional, but it’s a standard mil-spec trigger. It has some grit and a heavier pull. For a dedicated competition shooter or someone spoiled by aftermarket triggers, this will be the first thing they want to upgrade.
- Basic muzzle device: The A2 birdcage flash hider does its job, but it’s not a compensator or advanced brake. If muzzle rise mitigation is a top priority, plan on swapping it.
- Weight distribution: At a measured 0.8 oz, it’s light, but some users might find it a bit front-heavy with the 11.5″ barrel and handguard. Adding a light or other accessory up front will accentuate this.
Best For
Buy this if: You want a reliable, factory-built AR pistol that’s ready to go for home defense, truck duty, or the range without breaking the bank. You appreciate the value of a known-good brace like the SBA3 and don’t want to piece together a kit. You’re in Kansas and want a compact firearm that’s legal for hunting certain species where pistols are allowed (always check current KDWP regulations).
Skip this if: You are a trigger snob who demands a match-grade pull right out of the box. You are building a dedicated long-range precision gun (that’s not what this is for). You are on an extremely tight budget and are willing to accept potential reliability trade-offs with the cheapest possible kit.
Your Questions Answered
Is this a complete firearm?
Yes. The Real M400-TREAD PISTOL is a complete, factory-assembled firearm. It ships as a pistol with an SB Tactical SBA3 stabilizing brace attached. You will need to provide your own sights or optic, magazine, and ammunition.
Does it come with iron sights?
No, it does not include iron sights. The top of the receiver is a flat top Picatinny rail, ready for you to install your preferred backup iron sights (BUIS) or optic. This is standard for most firearms in this category.
What’s the difference between this and a rifle?
Legally, this is a “pistol” because it has a barrel under 16 inches and is designed to be fired with a stabilizing brace, not a stock. This makes it more compact. Under federal law, you cannot put a vertical foregrip on it unless you register it as an Any Other Weapon (AOW) or Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR). Always know your local and state laws, especially in Kansas regarding vehicle carry.
Is it reliable with steel-cased ammo?
In our experience and from consistent customer feedback, it runs well with brass-cased ammunition right away. Performance with steel-cased ammo (like Tula or Wolf) can be more variable in any AR platform. It may run fine, or it may require a break-in period with brass first. We recommend starting with a few boxes of quality brass .223 to ensure smooth operation.
Where can I buy Real online?
You’re looking at it. Polymer80Warehouse is an authorized retailer. We ship from our Cape Girardeau, MO warehouse. Since adding it to our lineup, it’s been a consistently popular item with our customers due to its reliability and value proposition.
Can I shoulder the brace?
The legal landscape regarding pistol braces changes. You must comply with current ATF rulings at the time of your purchase and use. As of this writing, always consult the latest ATF guidelines and potentially seek legal counsel to ensure you are in compliance. We, as an FFL, cannot provide legal advice.
What is your return policy if there’s an issue?
If you receive the firearm and there is a manufacturer defect, contact us immediately. We will work with you and Real to resolve the issue, which may include a repair, replacement, or return. Please see our full return policy for details. Our goal is a satisfied customer, as reflected in our high product satisfaction scores.
