CCI’s Big 4 Shotshell for .45 Colt (Long Colt) delivers a controlled pattern of #4 lead shot from your revolver. This is for pest control at close range—think snakes, rodents, or birds in barns and gardens. The 140-grain load is purpose-built, not a converted cartridge. Since we started stocking it in summer 2025, it’s become a steady seller for practical, close-quarters work. One note from our staff: we had a return where a customer said it was ‘too tight’—it turned out he was using an aftermarket frame. It chambers and functions perfectly in OEM firearms.
Stand-Out Features
- Controlled Shot Dispersion: The specialized capsule design contains the #4 lead shot until impact, providing a consistent pattern for reliable pest removal at typical engagement distances.
- OEM-Ready Fit: Engineered to SAAMI specifications for reliable chambering and ejection in standard .45 Colt revolvers. We’ve confirmed reliable function in multiple common platforms.
- Practical Packaging: 200-round case provides a substantial supply for seasonal pest control needs or extended range sessions without frequent reordering.
- CCI Reliability: Backed by consistent manufacturing and quality control from a major U.S. ammunition manufacturer, ensuring dependable ignition and performance.
- Minimal Ricochet Risk: The small, lightweight lead shot loses energy quickly and deforms on hard surfaces, making it a safer choice for certain environments compared to solid projectiles.

Your Questions Answered
Will this ammo cycle in my lever-action rifle?
No. This shotshell is designed for revolver use only. The plastic capsule is too long to feed through a tubular magazine and may cause malfunctions. It is not recommended for any rifle platform.
What is the effective range?
This load is effective for small pests like snakes and rats at very close distances, typically under 15 feet. The pattern opens quickly, making it unsuitable for anything beyond point-blank range. It is not for hunting game or defensive use.
I have an aftermarket or modified firearm. Will it work?
We recommend testing a small quantity first. While it runs flawlessly in our tests with factory-standard revolvers, tight tolerances in some custom or aftermarket frames (like the one noted in our experience) can cause chambering issues. Function test before committing to the full case.
