.308 80% Lower – Billet
Precision machining meets modular firearm design. The .308 80% lower – billet is a raw, unfinished receiver component intended for the experienced builder who demands tight tolerances and a solid foundation for a large-frame AR platform. Machined from a single block of 7075-T6 aluminum, this component offers the structural integrity required for .308-class cartridges while remaining fully compliant with all federal regulations as an unfinished receiver. Each unit is precision-cut using a multi-axis CNC process, ensuring that the critical pocket dimensions, trigger group geometry, and buffer tower alignment are consistent with mil-spec jig patterns.
Overview
This .308 80% lower – billet is designed for the AR-308 / DPMS pattern large-frame platform. Unlike forged lowers, the billet construction process removes material from a solid aluminum block, resulting in sharper external contours, more uniform wall thickness, and no forging lines. The lower is shipped in an incomplete state: all fire control cavities are unmachined, and the trigger pocket, hammer pin holes, and selector detent channel require final finishing by the end user. This component is classified as a non-firearm under current ATF guidelines and does not require an FFL for transfer when in its 80% configuration. The receiver is engineered with an integral trigger guard and features a flared magazine well for faster reloads. All mounting points for the bolt catch, takedown pins, and grip are pre-drilled and tapped to exacting specifications.
Features & Specs
The .308 80% lower – billet delivers structural and dimensional advantages that directly impact build quality and long-term durability. Critical specifications include the following:
- Material: 7075-T6 aluminum billet, hard coat anodized per MIL-A-8625 Type III, Class 2. This provides superior wear resistance and corrosion protection compared to standard 6061 alloys.
- Platform Compatibility: DPMS pattern LR-308 / AR-308. Compatible with standard .308 upper receivers, buffer tubes, and lower parts kits designed for the large-frame AR system.
- Machining Precision: All external dimensions and critical datums are held to +/- 0.002 inch. The trigger pocket is left undersized by 0.015 inch for final finishing with standard 80% jigs and router templates.
- Receiver Features: Integral trigger guard, flared magazine well, rear takedown pin detent channel pre-drilled, and an oversized bolt catch recess to accommodate ambidextrous bolt catch levers.
Additional design elements include a tensioning screw for eliminating upper-to-lower receiver wobble and a threaded bolt catch pin for secure installation. The selector detent hole is pre-drilled at 0.250 inch diameter, requiring no drilling during the finishing process.
Who It’s For
The .308 80% lower – billet is intended for the competent, hands-on builder who owns the necessary tooling—drill press, router, or mill—and has experience with 80% lower finishing. This component is not for first-time builders. It suits the shooter who prioritizes a rigid, heavyweight receiver for precision .308 loads, the competition shooter who needs a reliable large-frame platform, or the hobbyist who values the process of completing a firearm from a raw component. The billet construction offers aesthetic benefits for those who plan to cerakote or apply custom finishes, as the material accepts coatings uniformly. This lower is also appropriate for builders who plan to use high-mass bolt carrier groups and heavy buffer systems, as the 7075-T6 aluminum provides the necessary structural support for increased reciprocating mass.
Shipping & FFL
Because this .308 80% lower – billet is sold as an unfinished, non-functional receiver component, it is not classified as a firearm under the Gun Control Act of 1968. It can be shipped directly to your residence or business via common carrier without requiring an FFL transfer. No background check is required at the time of purchase. However, once the receiver is machined to completion, it becomes a firearm and must be serialized in accordance with all applicable state and local laws. The end user is solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and municipal regulations regarding the manufacture and possession of firearms. This product is sold for personal use only and may not be transferred to a prohibited person. By purchasing this product, you certify that you are legally permitted to own and manufacture a firearm in your jurisdiction.
