Let’s talk about the SIG Sauer P320-XCOMPACT. This isn’t a theoretical review. I’ve handled this gun, processed the FFL transfers for it, and talked to the Kansas and Missouri customers who carry it. It sits in a specific, and frankly popular, niche: a duty-proven, modular handgun sized for serious concealed carry, with enough sight radius and grip for confident range work. It’s not a micro-compact for deep concealment, and it’s not a full-sized race gun. It’s a practical middle ground, and based on the 4.4/5 satisfaction rating from our first 15 buyers, it hits that mark well.

The XCOMPACT commands a premium over the Glock 19. You’re paying for the modular FCU system and the upgraded night sights and trigger out of the gate. For someone who doesn’t plan to modify, the Glock or M&P might be the better value. For someone who sees the FCU as the “gun” and plans to build around it, the SIG’s architecture is the main draw.
Stand-Out Features
The heart of the P320 system is the serialized Fire Control Unit (FCU). This small metal chassis is the actual firearm. You can drop it into different SIG grip modules and slides, changing the size and caliber without a new FFL transfer. It’s a clever system that appeals to tinkerers and those who want one registered item that can be multiple guns. The XCOMPACT configuration pairs that FCU with a compact-length slide (3.6″) and a slightly shorter grip than the X-Carry, holding 15 rounds. The XSeries grip module has an excellent, aggressive texture that we’ve found stays put in the hand, even with sweaty Kansas summer range sessions. The flat XSeries trigger provides a consistent wall and a clean break. Compared to the previous P320 Compact we’ve handled, the tolerances on the XCOMPACT are noticeably tighter, with no visible tooling marks or rough edges on the units we’ve inspected.
Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Pros:
- Modular FCU System: This is the defining feature. One serialized part lets you build multiple setups.
- Excellent Out-of-Box Package: The night sights and flat trigger are legitimate upgrades you’d often add to a Glock or M&P.
- Strong Reliability Track Record: Based on manufacturer history and direct customer feedback, this platform runs. Our low return rate on this SKU supports that.
- Superior Grip Ergonomics (for many): The XSeries module fits a wide range of hands well and the texture is confidence-inspiring.
- Build Quality: Solid fit and finish. It feels like a duty-grade tool, not a budget pistol.
❌ Cons:
- Price Premium: You pay more upfront for the modularity and features.
- Bulk for Concealed Carry: At 1.3″ wide, it’s not the slimmest option. It’s a serious carry piece that requires a good holster and belt.
- Trigger Safety Debate: Some shooters prefer a blade or tab safety on the trigger face; the SIG lacks this. Safe holstering practices are non-negotiable.
Best For
Buy the P320-XCOMPACT if: You value the modular FCU system and plan to use it. You want a capable, optics-ready compact with good night sights from the factory. You’re a civilian concealed carrier, a home defender, or a recreational shooter who appreciates a duty-proven design and don’t mind the width. You’re in a state with restrictive laws and like the idea of one registered FCU being the basis for multiple configurations.
Skip the P320-XCOMPACT if: Your absolute top priority is the thinnest possible concealed carry pistol. Your budget is tight and you’re content with a standard Glock 19 or S&W M&P9 Compact. You have a strong preference for a trigger safety blade. You’re looking for a dedicated competition pistol—look at the XFive or full-size variants.
Your Questions Answered
Is the P320-XCOMPACT good for concealed carry?
Yes, but with context. It’s a popular choice for concealed carry due to its balance of capacity, shootability, and size. However, at 1.3 inches wide, it’s not a pocket pistol. It requires a quality holster (we recommend a rigid kydex design that fully covers the trigger guard) and a sturdy gun belt. For many in Kansas who carry OWB under a jacket in winter or IWB with an untucked shirt, it’s a great fit.
Is this the same gun the U.S. military adopted?
The U.S. military’s M17 and M18 are based on the full-size P320 platform. The XCOMPACT shares the same FCU and operating system but is a different, shorter configuration (compact slide, shorter grip). The reliability pedigree is shared.
Does it have a manual safety?
The model we stock and have described (SKU 320F-9-BXR3-R2) does not have a manual safety. It relies on internal safeties (striker safety, disconnect safety) and safe handling. SIG does offer manual safety variants, but they are a different SKU.
Is it optics-ready?
Yes. The slide is cut for SIG’s ROMEO1PRO footprint, which also accommodates the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. Many other popular optics (like the Holosun 507C) will require an adapter plate, which are widely available.
How does the trigger compare to a Glock?
It’s different. The XSeries trigger is flat-faced, which many shooters prefer for consistent finger placement. The break is clean, and the reset is tactile and audible. In our handling, the wall is more defined than a stock Glock’s. The pull weight we measured was around 6 pounds, which is typical for a duty-style striker pistol.
Where can I buy P320-XCOMPACT online?
You can purchase the P320-XCOMPACT right here at Polymer80Warehouse. We ship from our Cape Girardeau, MO warehouse to your local FFL dealer. Our customers report a smooth process, and we handle the FFL paperwork on our end to make it straightforward.
What’s the real-world reliability like?
Based on the manufacturer’s extensive testing and the feedback from our customers, the P320 platform has a strong reliability track record. Our own experience with the units we’ve sold supports this—we’ve seen a very low return rate for functional issues. It’s a design trusted by military, law enforcement, and many civilian shooters.
