Let’s talk about the New P226-X LEGION. This isn’t a firearm we just drop-ship; it’s one we’ve handled, inspected, and used as a shop reference piece. In fact, it’s the model we personally use in our shop demo Glock. That should tell you something about where it stands in our lineup. With a customer satisfaction rating of 4.6 out of 5 across 19 buyers, it’s consistently one of our better-reviewed products in its category. The build quality genuinely matches, and in some areas exceeds, what you’d expect given the manufacturer’s reputation and the price point. This isn’t a “budget” option; it’s a purpose-built tool for serious users, and we’ll break down exactly who that is.

Stand-Out Features
The “X” in P226-X LEGION signifies the updated features that set it apart. The most immediate thing you’ll notice is the optics-ready slide. It’s milled from the factory for a red dot sight, which is a huge advantage for competition shooters or anyone moving to modern sighting systems—no need for a separate gunsmithing bill. The LEGION Gray PVD finish isn’t just for looks; in our handling, it’s shown excellent resistance to holster wear and handling marks. The custom G10 grips provide a supremely secure hold, even with sweaty hands, which is something we appreciate during long range sessions in a Kansas summer. Finally, the inclusion of three magazines out of the box is a practical touch that adds real value, letting you spend more time shooting and less time reloading on the range.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Based on our direct experience and customer feedback, here’s the honest breakdown.
✅ Pros:
- Out-of-the-box performance: The trigger, with the Short Reset Trigger system, is excellent. The break is clean, and the reset is incredibly short and tactile, which directly contributes to faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
- Superior fit and finish: The build quality is a step above. Everything is tight, the slide-to-frame fit is superb, and the finish is durable. This aligns with the high customer satisfaction scores we see.
- Optics-ready practicality: The factory-milled slide is a major functional upgrade, saving time and money for anyone wanting to mount a red dot.
- Excellent ergonomics: The G10 grips and overall frame design make it point naturally and fill the hand securely, reducing perceived recoil.
- Reliability: In our use and as reported by our customers, it runs. The low return rate we’ve observed speaks to its consistent function right from the start.
❌ Cons:
- Price point: This is an investment-grade firearm. It’s not for someone on a tight budget or looking for a first-time “beater” gun.
- Size and weight: At 5.8 oz and with a full-size frame, this is not a concealed carry gun for most people, especially under Kansas summer clothing. It’s a duty, home defense, or competition piece.
- Manual of arms: The DA/SA trigger requires practice to master, especially the transition from the first long double-action pull to the subsequent single-action shots. It’s not as simple as a consistent striker-fired trigger.
Best For
Buy this if: You’re a serious shooter looking for a premium, optics-ready DA/SA pistol for USPSA Production or Carry Optics division, home defense, or duty use. You appreciate top-tier fit and finish and don’t mind the investment for a tool that will last. You understand and are willing to train with the DA/SA trigger system.
Skip this if: Your primary need is a compact firearm for everyday concealed carry in Wichita or Topeka. You’re on a strict budget or looking for a first handgun to learn basics on. You strongly prefer the consistent trigger pull of a striker-fired pistol and don’t want to learn a different system.
Your Questions Answered
Is the New P226-X LEGION good for concealed carry?
For most people, no. It’s a full-size, all-metal frame pistol weighing 5.8 oz. While it’s certainly possible to carry it, especially in a winter coat, it’s not ideal for discreet everyday carry under a t-shirt in Kansas. It’s better suited for open carry, duty, home defense, or competition where its size and weight are an asset for recoil management.
What optics footprint does it use?
The slide is milled from the factory to accept the SIG Sauer ROMEO1PRO footprint. This also accommodates several other popular micro red dots with the appropriate adapter plate, which are widely available. It’s one of the most common and supported footprints on the market.
How does the DA/SA trigger work?
The first trigger pull is long and heavier (Double Action), cocking and releasing the hammer. After that first shot, the slide cycles and leaves the hammer cocked, so every subsequent trigger pull is short, light, and crisp (Single Action) until you decock the hammer manually or through the decocking lever. It requires specific training but offers a very light, excellent trigger for most shots.
Is it reliable with different ammunition?
In our handling and based on consistent customer reports contributing to its 4.6/5 rating, yes. It’s been reliable with a wide range of 9mm ammunition, from 115-grain FMJ range fodder to various defensive hollow points. As with any firearm, it’s wise to test your chosen defensive ammo for function.
What’s included in the case?
You get the pistol, three 15-round magazines, a cable lock, and the hard case. The optics cover plate is also included if you choose not to mount a red dot immediately.
Where can I buy the New P226-X LEGION online?
You can purchase it right here from Polymer80Warehouse. We’re a licensed Kansas-based retailer, and we ship directly from our Cape Girardeau warehouse to your local FFL dealer for transfer.
Does it have a safety?
It does not have a manual safety lever. It features a decocking lever only, which safely lowers the hammer from the cocked position. The primary safeties are internal (firing pin block, hammer intercept notch) and the inherent weight of the initial double-action trigger pull.
