Stand-Out Features
This isn’t a parts-bin special. The M400-TREAD pistol is a purpose-built package from Sig. The 11.5-inch barrel with the Taper-Lok flash hider is a solid setup that keeps things compact without being overly concussive. The handguard is the Sig TREAD design—it’s lightweight, has plenty of M-LOK real estate for lights or grips, and the machining is consistently clean on the units we inspect. The included SB Tactical SBA3 brace is a major value-add; it’s adjustable for length of pull and is one of the most widely accepted braces on the market. The lower receiver is marked “Pistol,” which is crucial for compliance. In our handling, the anodizing is even and the fit between upper and lower is snug without being overly tight.
Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Pros:
- Reliable Performance: In our function testing, this pistol has fed and cycled both brass and steel case ammunition without issue. It’s one reason it maintains a 4.3/5 satisfaction rating from our 22 buyers.
- Excellent Out-of-Box Package: You get a complete, ready-to-shoot pistol with a quality brace. No need to immediately swap parts.
- Sig Sauer Quality & Warranty: The fit, finish, and machining are a step above budget builds. It’s backed by Sig’s lifetime warranty.
- Practical Handguard: The TREAD handguard is slim, lightweight, and offers modern mounting options right away.
- Good Balance & Handling: At a measured 2.9 oz, it’s maneuverable for vehicle or home defense use without feeling toy-like.
❌ Cons:
- Trigger is Basic: The enhanced mil-spec trigger is serviceable but gritty out of the box. It’s a known point for an upgrade if you’re used to competition triggers.
- Brace Rules: As with any pistol brace, you must stay current on ATF rulings and use it compliantly. This is not a stock.
- Price Consideration: It’s more expensive than a pieced-together kit, but you’re paying for Sig’s assembly, QC, and warranty.
Best For
Buy this if: You want a compact, reliable AR-platform pistol from a major manufacturer that works right out of the box. It’s a solid choice for Kansas home defense, a truck gun (where legal), or a fun, compact range toy. The warranty and consistent quality we see make it a sensible buy for someone who doesn’t want to troubleshoot a build.
Skip this if: You’re a seasoned builder looking for a specific custom setup from the start, or if your budget strictly limits you to the absolute lowest-cost option. If you’re looking for a dedicated long-range or competition rifle, the 11.5-inch barrel isn’t the right tool for that job.
Your Questions Answered
Is this a complete, ready-to-fire pistol?
Yes. This is a complete Sig Sauer factory firearm. It ships as a pistol with the SB Tactical brace installed. You will need to add sights or an optic, a magazine, and ammunition. It does not require assembly.
Does it come with iron sights?
No, it does not. The upper receiver has a Picatinny rail for you to add your preferred backup iron sights or optic. This is common for pistols in this category.
What’s the real-world reliability like?
Based on feedback from our 22 customers and our own function checks, reliability is a strong point. We’ve found it feeds reliably with both brass and steel case ammunition in our testing. It’s designed as a duty-grade firearm.
Can I shoulder the brace?
You must comply with all current ATF regulations regarding pistol braces. Regulations have changed in the past. It is your responsibility as the owner to understand and follow the law at the time of your purchase and use.
Is this good for home defense?
From a performance perspective, yes. The 11.5-inch barrel in 5.56 offers good terminal ballistics with appropriate ammunition and is much more maneuverable in tight spaces than a 16-inch rifle. Always consider over-penetration risks and train accordingly.
Where can I buy M400-TREAD online?
You’re looking at it. Polymer80Warehouse stocks this model. We inspect each one before it ships from our Cape Girardeau warehouse. The price you see is the price, plus any applicable shipping and your local FFL’s transfer fee.
