Stand-Out Features
This isn’t just another bolt gun. The CROSS platform is built around modularity. The quick-change barrel system is the real deal—we’ve had customers buy one action and multiple pre-fit barrels in different calibers. It’s a legitimate feature for someone who hunts elk in Colorado with a .300 Win Mag but wants to use the same familiar rifle for whitetail in Kansas with a 6.5 Creedmoor. The adjustable stock isn’t a gimmick; it has meaningful length of pull and comb height adjustments to get a solid, repeatable cheek weld with any optic setup. The tang safety is intuitive and falls right under your thumb, a detail hunters appreciate when wearing gloves.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Based on our hands-on inspection and customer feedback from 42 buyers (averaging a 4.4/5 satisfaction score), here’s the real breakdown.
✅ Pros
- Modularity is Real: The barrel change system works as advertised. It’s a major reason we see repeat customers.
- Out-of-the-Box Accuracy: In our conversations with customers, most report sub-MOA groups with quality factory ammo. The action is consistently smooth from the factory.
- Excellent Ergonomics: The adjustable stock and grip angle make it point naturally. The tang safety is a standout feature for safe carry in the field.
- Lightweight for a Magnum: At a measured 6.7 lbs, it’s easy to carry all day in the Flint Hills or the Rockies without being punishing.
- Clean Build Quality: In our pre-shipment inspection, the machining and finish are consistently clean, with no sharp edges or tooling marks.
❌ Cons
- Price Point: It’s an investment. You’re paying for the modular system. If you only ever want one caliber, a traditional rifle may offer better value.
- Magazine Cost/Feel: The polymer magazines function reliably, but some users find them a bit lightweight or prefer metal. Spare mags are an additional cost.
- “Too Tight” for Non-OEM: We had one return where a customer said the action was “too tight.” It turned out he was trying to fit it to an aftermarket frame not to spec. It runs perfectly on OEM setups—a good reminder to check compatibility.
Best For
Buy it if: You’re a serious hunter who pursues multiple game species in different terrains and values the ability to swap calibers on one proven platform. You appreciate precision rifle features (adjustable stock, great trigger) in a lightweight, packable hunting rifle. You’re a Kansas hunter who might chase pronghorn in the west one season and whitetail at home the next.
Skip it if: You are on a tight budget and need a dedicated, single-caliber rifle for one specific purpose. You prefer the classic look and feel of a traditional walnut or laminate stock. You are looking for a heavy, range-only precision rifle chassis system.
Your Questions Answered
Is the barrel really user-changeable?
Yes. The system uses a barrel nut and requires a specific action wrench and barrel vise, but it’s designed for competent users to swap pre-fit barrels at home. We’ve sold multiple barrels to customers who do this for different hunting seasons.
How does it handle .300 Win Mag recoil?
The stock design and weight help manage it well. It’s still a magnum cartridge, so expect stout recoil. Adding a muzzle brake (it’s threaded) or a good recoil pad makes it very manageable for most shooters. It’s not a punishing rifle to shoot.
Is it suitable for long-range target shooting?
It’s capable of precision, but it’s first and foremost a hunting rifle. The lightweight barrel can heat up during long strings of fire at the range. It will shoot very accurately, but for dedicated benchrest or PRS-style shooting, a heavier, target-specific rifle is often preferred.
What optics do you recommend?
For a .300 Win Mag hunting rifle, a quality 3-15x or 4-16x scope with a good ballistic reticle is a great match. We see a lot of Leupold VX-5HD, Vortex Razor LHT, and Nightforce SHV models mounted on these. Make sure your rings and base are quality steel.
Where can I buy the CROSS MAGNUM online?
You can purchase it right here from Polymer80Warehouse. We’re an authorized retailer, and every rifle is inspected in our Cape Girardeau warehouse before shipping to your FFL. Our customer satisfaction data across 42 buyers shows a 4.4/5 rating.
Will it fit in a standard rifle case?
Yes. At just over 42 inches overall with a 22-inch barrel, it fits in most standard 44-inch or larger rifle cases. If you add a large muzzle brake, factor in the extra length.
Is the trigger adjustable?
Yes. The trigger is user-adjustable for pull weight, typically from about 2.5 to 4 pounds. The adjustment is straightforward with a hex key. We find the factory setting to be excellent for hunting.
